This was a fun little project I worked on for the last 6-7 weeks.
While I was learning Marvelous Designer, I wanted to do something traditional again, so I got inspired by one of my favourite artists, Tim Burton.
I always admired his style and sense for bizarre shapes and color themes, so I tried to achieve something similar.
The main scenery is an old abandoned lab, that was founded by a professor who studied the self-healing capabilities of the axolotl.
Sometime, he learned about a creature, that was said to be half axolotl, half human. He went on a hunt to capture the mysterious being. He really found the creature, but lost his whole crew - with him the only one to survive. He studied the axolotl-human-hybrid for serveral years - trying to mix his own dna with the genes of the creature to gain its healing ability. He never succeeded, went mad in despair and left the lab in its present state.
The project was created in Unreal Engine 4.
I used baked lighting with several shading techniques to match the style of Tim Burton.
I followed a realtime-approach - all meshes and textures are gameready and optimized for runtime usage. Only the lighting was setup in an 'offline-way' for beautyshot purposes.
The texturing work was done in Substance Painter, mostly hand-painted. For the scultping process I used ZBrush with a lot of custom alphas and brushes. Hardsurface work was done in 3DS Max.
